The newest development in structural news in the Seattle area is the creation of the Amazon Towers, built by the American international electronic commerce company in Downtown Seattle. These buildings will let Amazon have an official base of operations and will be a significant change when it comes to providing jobs for local Seattle residents. The main “campus” will have three towers constructed on each side of the property. Amazon has also commissioned bubble shaped structures that will serve as a conference center. Amazon has hired local architects for the job — NBBJ, Callison LLC, and LMN Architects.
Amazon has a very clear vision for the towers and the five-story bubble buildings and the reasoning behind the designs. NBBJ devised hive-like “centers of energy” that connect multiple floors with stairways, allowing employees to easily share their ideas with each other in a common space. Images of the Amazon campus and the towers at the moment are three-dimensional renderings, letting the architects edit the appearance of the towers during how they see fit. This might be the case due to online critics saying that the only creative talent going into the project was the design of the bubble towers from the three-dimensional renderings that have been released to the public.
The first tower is already under construction while the rest of the project will be completed by late 2015 or early 2016.
